This live 40-minute performance is the culmination of ten weeks of rehearsal for the first draft of this play. In rehearsal, artists of mixed physical abilities will create scenes through a series of improvisational exercises and use dance, movement, and acrobatics as a jumping-off point for telling the physical and visceral stories of the life of Matt Purinton, born with TAR syndrome. During the rehearsal process the performers (including Matt) will explore different ways to immerse the audience in the performance and give them an opportunity to experience what it's like to live with a disability.
Following the performance will be a 20-minute community conversation centered on the work of artists with disabilities, the role of art to help increase visibility and support for people with disabilities, and the unique challenges to making this work in Philadelphia.
Project Team includes: Matt Purinton, Michaela Moore, and Kermit Cole
This project is also supported by Seven Engines, a Philadelphia-based producing group that partners with independent artists and events to engineer small-to-large scale performance projects.
